WELCOME TO TEAM TORRES DERRY KIDS & TEENS

The kids and teens programs where set up in an attempt to provide world class tuition and dedicated classes for the young people of our city and beyond. The classes cater for young people from the ages of 7 – 15 years old. Our wish is to provide our young attendees with an environment where they can flourish and develop core values such as focus, discipline, persistence and respect.

With in our sport we create a fun but challenging environment where your child will receive skills that goes far beyond the the wins on the mat. It’s our belief that training within our programs will provide your child with skills that will be transferable to their home life, school life and even adulthood.

6 REASONS WHY YOU SHOULD ENROL YOUR CHILD IN BJJ

#1 BJJ Shows Kids How To Handle Bullies

Unfortunately, bullies are not going anywhere, so your child should have self-defense skills. BJJ focuses on self-defense tactics on the ground, it is an excellent and non-threatening way to deal with bullies. There are a variety of locks and holds your child can use to neutralise a bully without ever throwing a single punch or kick. BJJ focuses on leverage instead of strength and power, so it will be a great way to boost your childs self-esteem, knowing they can handle bullies even if they are bigger than them. Once your child knows he has the skills to defend themselves, then they will become more confident.

#2 BJJ Teaches Kids To Learn From Failures

Unlike other forms of martial arts training, in BJJ, your child will practice their skills against a resisting opponent. When your child first begins their training, they will experience failure. But that is alright – even the most senior BJJ practitioners and black belts have struggled and faced failures early in their respective journeys. However, through the encouragement and guidance from their instructors, your child can learn from her mistakes and focus on improving their skills.

#3 BJJ Helps Kids Socialise

BJJ is a good recreational activity that helps your child socialise with kids who they might not otherwise get to meet. The diversity in a BJJ class is an ideal environment for your child to learn about other ethnicities, cultures, and religions. Also, when your child trains with other kids, they will develop trust and build stronger bonds with their teammates.

#4 BJJ Improves Kids’ Coordination

BJJ typically involves the use of many sequences to execute techniques. When training in “the gentle art,” your child will learn to develop fine motor skills, spatial awareness, and coordination. The forced repetitions of these techniques during training will help your child commit those movements to muscle memory. As a result, they will develop greater control over their body and learn to be more precise in their actions. Kids who understand how their limbs move in relation to the techniques end up developing better coordination and improved flexibility.

#5 BJJ Helps Build Healthy Lifestyle Habits

BJJ emphasizes the importance of physical activity and can instill positive habits in your son from an early age. In BJJ, your child will be engaged in a physically and intellectually stimulating martial art. This will help to prevent them from lapsing into the sedentary lifestyles associated with watching television. Also, your chilld will grow to appreciate the benefits of coordination, flexibility, agility, and endurance as necessary elements to succeed in BJJ.

#6 Develop Respect And Feel Respected

Your child will learn to be aware of their partner in all interactions. Because of this, you child will develop genuine respect and care for their partners. Children are not born knowing how to demonstrate respect. We teach them specific instructions for showing others respect: look people in the eye, speak clearly, say please and thank you. In Jiu Jitsu, children learn profound and subtle ways of showing respect. Techniques require students to be keenly aware of their partner, and executing such techniques during sparring demonstrates incredible awareness of the other student.
