The head coach of Team Torres Derry is Martin Mc Laughlin.
Martin is a Black belt (2nd degree) under Sebastian Torres (3rd Degree Black belt) Alessandro Charuto (4th Degree Black belt). Martin is formally trained as an A level Geography teacher but decided to follow his martial arts passion full time and opened his own academy Team Torres Derry.
Martin has had some great achievements as a competitor winning national titles in Ireland, Scotland and England. This was topped off by winning the IBJJF European Open in 2015 (M2 Brown Belt). He was ranked 8th in the world under IBJJF at Brown Belt at his age and belt before his promotion to Black belt. Martin achieved the status of Level 2 wrestling coach (black belt level) under British Wrestling. He competed in wrestling winning national titles and for a while helped to coach the next generation of young aspiring wrestlers.
He has had 5 years of training in Judo (which continues to this day) in order to help round out his skill set. Even as a successful competitor, it was always Martin’s greatest aspiration to become a great coach and pass on his knowledge to the next generation of grapplers in his beloved home city of Derry – Adults, Teenagers and children alike.
Team Torres Derry has a successful MMA team and we have had considerable success in the past with 7 amateur titles and 2 professional titles over the years. As a coach in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Martin has really excelled as the Derry branch alone have produced many regional, national and International champions.
To Date, Team Torres Derry has produced no less than x7 IBJJF European Open champions and x2 World champions. This is testament to the world class coaching on offer and the unwavering dedication and hard work of the attendees.

FOCUS
We offer programs for complete beginners (who have never done any type of exercise at all) to advanced competitors (who want to raise the level of their game). All age groups, genders, skill levels, and fitness levels are welcome.

Team Torres is a martial arts team based in various locations in Northern Ireland with our roots within Brazilian Jiu Jistu.
The team was established by Sebastian Torres who is a Judo and Jiu Jitsu Black belt (3rd Degree). Starting his martial arts journey as a 3 year old practicing judo in the capital of Brazil, Brasilia.
He then made great waves in Judo and represented his country whilst training Jiu Jitsu to help aid his journey in Judo. He received his black belt from his coach Alessandro Charuto (4th Degree Black Belt) who is the head coach of Sebastians home team in Brasilia – ACTJJ . Team Torres although located in Northern Ireland, it is directly affiliated to ACTJJ. This affiliation means annual trips from Alessandro Charuto who continually upgrades the technical knowledge of students and Instructors within the team.
15 years ago, due to unforeseen circumstances and injury Sebastian was forced to make his way to Northern Ireland to be with family members. He loved it here and never returned home. He has since married and has a wife and 2 children and resides in Newry permanently.
